Many people in Africa suffer from chronic wounds; this number is even higher among the population living in the bush. These people have no access to specialized nursing and their wounds gets worse for lack of proper care.
MMI provides wound care during bush outreaches. At the end of the project, patients who need continued care come to our clinic in Sokode called La Maison Bethesda. The care to these patients continues even between outreaches. It is given by wound care assistants in Togo under the guidance of a Certified Wound Care Specialist. We use the financial donations we receive to cover the cost of wound care supplies, making it free to those who come to the clinic.
Wound Care Teaching Program to Student Nurses
Medical Mission International is offering the opportunity to Universities to bring small groups of student nurses to experience Trans-cultural Nursing in Africa. The students nurses will be going into the bush and tent in the village where the clinic will take place. They will have hands-on practice in pharmacology, triage, and wound care.
We are able to receive only small groups of 4 student nurses with an instructor at this time. These nurses must be flexible, eager to learn, and respectful of the people we serve. They must also be gracious to the Christian values and beliefs of MMI and the local people we care for.
