Medical Mission International sends mission teams to Togo (West Africa,) and Peru (South America).
We partner with church planters and set up clinics in small villages in remote areas of the country where there is little or no access to health clinics, and where there is potential to establish a Christian church.
Togo, West Africa
Togo is a small country in West Africa. Since 2007 they have enjoyed a stable government. MMI has been taking medical mission teams to Africa since 2004, in the countries of Mali and Burkina Faso.
In October 2013, we had our first project in the country of Togo. In June 2014 we moved north to the city of Sokode to work in the Central Region. Sokode is the second largest city in Togo, with the highest percentage of Muslims in the country.
In Togo, we have 2 different types of medical mission trips:
1. Bush Teams (Medical/Wound Care)
These projects are done in the bush, outside of the city of Sokode, where the the needs of the people are the greatest. The people living in these tiny, isolated communities don’t have access to health care, and very often, deep wounds go untreated for months, and sometimes years, resulting in extreme infection that rob the individuals of any quality of life.
Because we work in remote areas on these bush medical trips, our teams camp in the villages, close to where we hold clinics. Tenting allows us to live the full experience of trans-cultural ministry and keeps us near the clinic so we don’t have to travel long distances to and from the bush site every day.
2. La Maison Bethesda Wound Care Teams
We realized, quite quickly, that many of our wound care patients need significant follow up care after treament in the bush clinic. As a result we rent a house in Sokode (La Maison Bethesda) where we offer extended care to the patients.
The patients stay with us for as long as they want. We provide them with the medical care they need, teach them , and share the Gospel of Jesus with instructions for spiritual growth.

Peru, South America
Peru is a land of beauty and diversity in cultures. It has a stable government, since the early 90’s, and as a result, there has been tremendously growth in modernization of this nation. Despite this progress, there are still many living in poverty and shantytowns in Lima. Most are young people. They have left the countryside and moved to Lima with the hopes to find employment. Many don’t find work and if they do, their salary is little.
MMI has done medical/dental projects in these shantytowns in Peru since 2004. We are partnering with the local churches who help to give us direction, and who participate with us by providing volunteers. Together, we bring a “wave of wellness” to these populations, and hope through hearing the Gospel of Jesus.
In Peru, for dental mission trips, our teams stay in hotels or hostels that are as close as possible to the mission location.
